Coquette was a tea cup poodle, or a very small toy. She was under four pounds. She died about forty years ago. Her memory is still very clear in my mind. She was, first of all, my mom’s dog. When my mom held Coquette no one came near without taking a chance of being bitten. Unfortunately, we all got a kick out of teasing Coquette and we would go up and touch mom just to upset the dog. Coquette liked to sit on my lap, but then I was not allowed to move. She expected to sit there until she was ready to move. I had to learn how to levitate so as not to get bitten while trying to stand up. She loved to play, but preferred doing that in the house and usually it involved rolling a Yum Yum down the lounge chair. She would catch the treat and after a dozen or so rolls she would eat our make believe ball. Coquette was definitely the boss and whether it was our Chihuhua Desi or, after he passed, our poodle Twinkle, Coquette ran the house with an iron paw. She was a great companion and will always bring fond memories. |
