Smokey began as our neighbor's cat, but they didn't know how to love their animals. They never let her inside and they fed her leftover eggs instead of cat food! Over time they forgot her and she became ours. We gave her attention and delicious things cats like to eat.

For several years, Smokey was a fixture in our backyard. She spent afternoons sunning herself and birdwatching. Her soft grey fur acquired red highlights from the sun. Though we tried to bring her inside, she resisted this lifestyle change and continued to be our outdoor kitty.

Smokey often helped out in the garage. Soon she became an expert in automotive parts and repair, but she kept her opinions to herself.

One day she disappeared, and we searched for her for a long time. We were all devastated to think she was gone and didn't want to believe it. We will always remember our sweet Smokey!
